The Journal of Science Education (JOSE), published by the School of Sciences, Nwafor Orizu College of Education, Nsugbe, is repositioning itself under the new faculty leadership to pursue broader international reach and stronger academic visibility.

The journal now frames its mission around advancing high-quality scholarship in science education, teacher development, and related scientific fields, while actively engaging global audiences. JOSE continues to champion an open-access model that treats research as a shared, collaborative effort among authors, reviewers, editors, and readers. This renewed direction aims to elevate the journal as a trusted platform for impactful, globally relevant scientific discourse.

AIM and SCOPE:

The primary focus of the Journal of Science Education is to publish original, unpublished works that deal with matters of importance to:

  • Pure and Applied Science: Covering research in core science disciplines.

  • Science Education: Addressing curriculum development, instructional methods, teaching effectiveness, student performance, and teacher training in science.

  • Technology and Mathematics Education (STME): Including the use of technology, such as Information and Communication Technology (ICT), in teaching and learning science and mathematics.

  • Entrepreneurship and Vocational Education: Research connecting scientific knowledge and skills with economic empowerment, national development goals (like the defunct Vision 20:2020 and Millennium Development Goals/Sustainable Development Goals), and job creation.

The journal invites contributions from teachers, lecturers, and researchers in education and related fields, with the goal of improving the quality and relevance of science teaching and learning.

PUBLICATION DETAILS and POLICY HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Review Process: Articles are typically peer-reviewed by an editorial board of experts.

  • Format and Length: Manuscripts generally have specific guidelines, such as being typed, double-spaced, and not exceeding a certain page limit (e.g., around 12 to 14 pages), including an abstract of typically not more than 200 words. (Authors should always consult the most current "Notes to Contributors" for the latest volume for exact formatting.)

  • Focus Areas: The journal often features research topics relevant to national educational policies and challenges in science teaching in Nigeria, such as:

    • Implementing new curricula (e.g., Basic Science Curriculum).

    • Teacher awareness and competence.

    • The role of science education in achieving national economic and development strategies.
